About a digital Canon power shot A550 its use and understanding the instruction manual?

have used slr 35mm cameras for years and consider myself well versed in there use and understand the technology very well. bought digital camera to move into the 20th century and dont understand a thing " i need digital cameras for dummies" is there such a book and if so where can i get it. or any simplified info that will help me untangle the instruction manual. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada. Even with following the instructions and "repeating" the steps i get confused and often differant results. HELP!! have used all info available on web and from canon site still no clarity
